Al Sailiya stage late rally to hold Qatar SC 2-2; Lusail in goalless draw with Al Shamal
Oct 18, 2026
Doha [Qatar], October 18: Al Sailiya made a late surge to rally from being two goals down and hold Qatar SC 2-2 while a spirited Lusail played out a goalless draw with Al Shamal in their respective Doha Bank Stars League round six games on Saturday.
At the Abdullah Bin Khalifa Stadium, Joselu (90+5 minute) and Younes Belhanda (82nd minute) struck for Al Sailiya after Niall Mason (34th minute) and Joao Pedro (51st minute) had put Qatar SC 2-0 ahead.
It was the first draw result of the league for Al Sailiya following five consecutive defeats and saw them log their first point while Qatar SC with a third draw remain on 3 points.
In a stoppage-time scamper, Joselu picked on the ball in front of the goal as it was being cleared after a free kick, the alertness beat a diving goalkeeper Ali Nader and left him frustrated.
Earlier, Moroccon Belhanda's free kick, taken about two yards away from top of the box, swerved into the top right corner.
Until then, Qatar SC seemed to be cruising with English pro Mason making a sharp header to a powerful Said Brahmi free kick - taken from left outside of the box, and Pedro essaying a fabulous free kick - from almost ten yards away from the box. It curled in to beat a diving Al Sailiya goalkeeper Bautista Burke to his left at the post.
Lusail vs Al Shamal 0-0
At the Suhaim Bin Hamad Stadium, both Lusail SC and Al Shamal struggled to break the deadlock in a tightly contested match.
Lusail, playing their maiden senior league, showed resilience at the back, while Al Shamal, who entered the fixture in fifth place, controlled more possession but lacked a clinical edge in front of goal.
Yellow cards were shown to Lusail's Omid Ebrahimi, Franco Russo, Ali Nemati and Al Shamal's Musab Kheder. Neither team managed to convert their limited clear chances.
Al Shamal moved up to 9 points while Lusail to 6 points.
