Three dead as storm-triggered floods hit SE France

Paris [France], May 21: Three elderly individuals have died following floods caused by severe thunderstorms in the southeastern French department of Var, local authorities confirmed on Tuesday.
According to a press release from the prefecture, two of the victims were found in the coastal town of Le Lavandou, while the third was discovered in Vidauban. The flooding followed an intense episode of thunderstorms that struck the region on Tuesday morning, resulting in sudden and widespread inundation.
The prefecture reported that around 203 households have been left without electricity. In response to the emergency, 320 firefighters have been deployed across the affected areas to conduct evacuations and rescue operations.
Speaking earlier in the afternoon, the mayor of Le Lavandou, Gil Bernardi, described the situation as "a shocking disaster of great magnitude."
