Congressman Dean Phillips decides to compete with President Joe Biden

Washington [US], November 4: Rep. Dean Phillips has just loaned his campaign for $2 million, in order to have a budget for him to compete with President Joe Biden as the Democratic representative for the US President in 2024.
Responding to Reuters on November 2, the 54-year-old candidate said he was about to attend fundraisers in many big cities, after announcing his candidacy last week. Mr. Phillips is the President of Talenti Gelato - the 3rd largest ice cream brand in the US. This millionaire businessman served as a congressman for 3 terms in an area with an unpredictable support rate in Minnesota. He said he would not take money from lobbyists and would not seek sources outside of fundraising groups on his behalf, when focusing on smaller donors. "I think money in politics is horribly destructive," he said, adding that more politicians listen to the minds of donors than ordinary voters.
Last month, President Biden's re-election campaign said it raised $71 million in the third quarter. Observers say Mr. Phillips is unlikely to influence Mr. Biden's chances of representing the Democratic Party, due to the current president's strong resources and official party support. However, they are concerned that any challenge to Biden could affect the party's chances of Republican candidate Donald Trump. In addition to Mr. Phillips, there is also candidate Marianne Williamson (71 years old). She is an author, speaker and political activist who campaigned for the 2020 primary but withdrew before the vote.
