Russia backs Lukashenko's idea for CSTO to hold conference on Eurasian security

Moscow [Russia], January 21: Russia fully supports the idea of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko for the Collective Security Treaty Organization to hold a conference on Eurasian security, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Thursday, TASS reported.
"Given that Russia is starting its presidency in the Eurasian Economic Union, and Belarus in the Collective Security Treaty Organization, we have paid special attention at the talks to the issues of developing Eurasian integration processes, which are aimed at raising the standard of living for our people, the strengthening of security of the two countries and the Union State. For our part, we have expressed full support for President Lukashenko's initiative for the CSTO to hold a high-level conference on Eurasian security, with invitations to be extended to representatives of the UN, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the CIS and other friendly groups and countries," he said at a news conference following a joint meeting of senior officials from the Russian and Belarusian foreign ministries.
According to Lavrov, Russia and Belarus emphasized the importance of preserving the memory of the glorious shared past and spoke in favor of beefing up efforts to provide patriotic education to the youth.
