Cambodia's Omicron cases surge to 150 with 27 new infections

Phnom Penh (Cambodia), January 9: The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases of Omicron variant in Cambodia has risen to 150 after 27 new infections were recorded in the last 24 hours, the Ministry of Health (MoH) said on Saturday.
"All 27 new cases were imported and they are Omicron cases," the MoH said in a statement, adding that so far, no domestic cases of Omicron have been reported in the southeast Asian nation.
MoH's secretary of state and spokeswoman Or Vandine called on people to remain cautious in order to prevent the Omicron variant from spreading into the community.
"Everyone should protect the community from the COVID-19 transmission/circulation, especially new variants such as Delta and Omicron," she wrote on Twitter.
"If your turn comes, go for COVID-19 vaccination now to complete the 3rd or booster dose at any health care facilities nearest to your home," she said.
Cambodia has so far administered at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccines to 14.28 million people, or 89.2 percent of its 16-million population, the MoH said.
Of them, 13.68 million, or 85.5 percent, were fully vaccinated with two required shots, and 3.85 million, or 24 percent, had taken a booster shot, it added.
Most of the vaccines used in the country's inoculation campaign are China's Sinovac and Sinopharm.
